Book Recommendation: A Review of 'My First Mythology Tale - Bal Hanuman'

For many years, I nurtured a desire to read, write and review children's books. Childhood is a magical season of life and books have a unique way of opening little windows to wonder, imagination and learning. In my search for children's literature, I was particularly drawn towards books with vibrant illustrations and colourful storytelling as pictures often capture a child's attention long before words do. A well-illustrated book can invite a young reader into a story and keep their curiosity alive from one page to the next.
This search eventually led me to a bookstore, where I came across 'My First Mythology Tale - Bal Hanuman', published by Navneet Education Limited and printed at their Khaniwade facility. The bright cover, attractive illustrations and simple presentation immediately appealed to me, convincing me that it would be an ideal introduction to mythology for young readers.
The story revolves around young Hanuman, one of the most beloved characters in Indian mythology. Like many children, Hanuman is curious and eager to learn. When he approaches his mother with a desire to gain knowledge, she lovingly guides him towards Surya Dev, the Sun God, who becomes his teacher. From this simple beginning unfolds a charming tale of learning, devotion, determination and wisdom.

What makes this book particularly engaging is its simplicity. The language is easy enough for young children to follow, while the illustrations breathe life into the story. Each page is filled with colourful artwork that complements the narrative, helping children visualize the characters and events. For early readers, such visual storytelling is invaluable as it encourages them to remain immersed in the book while gradually developing a love for reading.
Mythological stories have always occupied a special place in Indian homes. Long before children encounter them in books, they often hear snippets of these tales during family gatherings, religious festivals, visits to temples or evening conversations with grandparents. Stories such as those of Hanuman, Krishna, Rama and Ganesha naturally arouse a child's curiosity. Children begin to ask questions about the deities they see in pictures and idols and books like Bal Hanuman provide gentle, age-appropriate answers to those questions.
Beyond entertainment, stories from mythology can serve as valuable lessons in character-building. They introduce children to virtues such as courage, humility, obedience, perseverance and respect for knowledge. In the story of Hanuman's quest for learning, young readers are subtly encouraged to appreciate the value of education and the importance of seeking wisdom from teachers and elders.

As I turned the pages, I was reminded of my own childhood days when stories were not merely read but experienced. There was a certain innocence in believing that gods spoke to devotees, that animals could be loyal companions and that extraordinary adventures awaited those who dared to dream. Children's mythology books help preserve that innocence while gently nurturing imagination and moral understanding.
My First Mythology Tale - Bal Hanuman succeeds in doing exactly what a good children's book should do: it entertains, educates and inspires. It introduces one of India's most revered mythological figures in a manner that is accessible to young minds and encourages them to explore further.
For parents seeking a meaningful book for their children and for young readers beginning their journey into the rich world of Indian mythology, this title serves as a delightful starting point. It is a simple yet charming tale that reminds us that every great journey of knowledge begins with a single question asked by a curious child.
On a scale of 10 stars, I would give this book a rating of 9 stars.
