Book Recommendation: 'THE INCREDIBLE LIFE OF A HIMALAYAN YOGI', The Times, Teachings and Life of Living Shiva, Baba Lokenath Brahmachari
The life of a true saint is often beyond the grasp of mere words and so it is with the luminous journey of Baba Loknath Brahmachari, who is revered as a living embodiment of the Divine. Born in 1730 as recounted in sacred texts, his advent radiated the light of Lord Shiva. Witnesses to his birth reported divine signs: a radiant glow surrounded the infant as he sat upon his mother Kamala Devi’s lap, her face aglow with heavenly effulgence. His father, Ram Narayan, was transfixed in a state of spiritual trance, sensing the holy purpose of this divine child—his fourth son.
The name Lokenath was bestowed upon him during his first rice ceremony, performed in December of that year, aligning with divine timing. In his youth, Baba Loknath was entrusted to the tutelage of Bhagwan Ganguly, a venerable sannyasin and scholar. Bhagwan Ganguly, upon meeting the young Lokenath, intuited his boundless spiritual potential—a soul born to awaken humanity to the truth that God resides within every being. He initiated Baba Loknath and his companion Benimadhav as Naisthic Brahmacharins, setting them on the austere path of spiritual discipline.
Guided by his Guru, Baba Loknath immersed himself in the jungles, dedicating years to rigorous sadhana. His life exemplified the transcendent union of human effort and divine grace. As the years unfolded, Baba’s fragrance of divinity drew seekers from near and far, their hearts yearning for the peace he embodied. It is said that when the Guru sacrifices his own liberation for the spiritual blossoming of his disciples.
The book recounts the moment in December 1887 when Baba Loknath, in his omniscient wisdom, foretold the arrival of Prabhupada Sri Vijay Krishna Goswami at Baradi. His devotees, sent to the riverbank at Baba’s behest, were astounded to find Goswami’s boat stranded exactly as foretold—a testament to Baba’s divine insight.
As per the book, In 1890, on the 19th day of Jaistha, Baba Loknath entered Mahasamadhi, leaving his mortal frame and merging with the Infinite. Yet, as the book reminds us, death is but a transient phenomenon, while the Atman—the soul—is eternal and indestructible.
Reading this book fills one’s heart with tranquility and reverence for the sublime life of Baba Loknath. The simplicity of its language helps the profound peace it imparts. My own reading of this book on Kindle has been a source of deep inspiration and I would rate this book a 9 out of 10.

Some of the sayings as mentioned in the book by Baba Lokenath:
"Whenever you are in danger, whether in war, forest, ocean or jungle, remember Me. I shall save you.
"You may not know me. You may not realize who I am. Just pray to me with a little touch of your heart, and I shall free you from gripping sorrows and miseries.
